Wuerhosaurus is named after Wuerho (Urho), a district in the Junggar Basin of Xinjiang, north-western China, near where the first fossils were found. It is combined with the Greek word for lizard. The name therefore means 'Wuerho lizard'. It is one of the last known stegosaurs, a plated dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous.

A stegosaurian dinosaur. The type species is W. homheni. Its validity and the referral of other species (such as W. ordosensis from Inner Mongolia) have been debated, and the material is fragmentary, so some researchers doubt how well it is diagnosed.
