Walkeria
waw-KEER-ee-uh /wɔːˈkɪəriə/
"Walker's (animal)" (probable)
- Walker · English (surname) · honoree, probably Alick Walker
- -ia · Latin · Latinised suffix for a genus name
Walkeria is a patronym, which means it was named in honour of a person. I believe the person is the British paleontologist Alick Walker, who studied Triassic archosaurs, but I am not certain of that. The type species is Walkeria maleriensis, named for the Maleri Formation of India.
- Period
- Late Triassic
- Found in
- Maleri Formation, India
I am fairly confident Walkeria is a Late Triassic taxon from India, but I am not sure of the author, year or current taxonomic status. It is a poorly known, fragmentary form, and its classification has been doubtful. The name Walkeria has also been used for non-dinosaur animals, so check which one a source means. Please verify the details against a primary source.
