Synonym of Lewisuchus

false rabbit crocodile

  • souchos · Greek · crocodile

The name means "false Lagosuchus". Arcucci chose it because the fossils resembled those of Lagosuchus, a small relative from the same rocks, but were judged to belong to a different animal. Lagosuchus itself means "rabbit crocodile".

Pseudolagosuchus (type species P. major) is not a true dinosaur. It is a silesaurid-grade dinosauromorph, a close relative of dinosaurs. Recent work, including Desojo et al. 2020, treats it as a junior synonym of Lewisuchus admixtus (Romer, 1972). That synonymy is not universally accepted, so some authors still treat it as a separate genus.
