Ngwevu
ng-WEH-voo /ŋˌwɛˈvuː/
Accepted genus
grey (skull)
- ngwevu · isiXhosa/isiZulu · grey
Ngwevu comes from the Nguni languages isiXhosa and isiZulu, where "ngwevu" means "grey". The name was chosen for the grey colour of the fossil skull. The only species is Ngwevu intloko, and "intloko" means "skull" in isiXhosa. The full name therefore means "grey skull". The fossil is a South African early sauropodomorph that was once assigned to Massospondylus.

Ngwevu is a basal sauropodomorph, not a sauropod. It is known from a well-preserved skull and skeleton that was originally referred to Massospondylus. The type species is Ngwevu intloko. I am less sure of the exact stage and locality details, so those fields are left blank or kept general.
