Glishades

GLISS-ah-deez /ˈɡlɪs ə diːz/

Nomen dubium

slippery, muddy one" or "mud-dweller"

  • glischros · Greek · sticky, slippery, glutinous (mud)
  • -ades · Greek · one associated with / descendant of

The name comes from the Greek word "glischros," meaning sticky or glutinous, combined with the Greek suffix "-ades," meaning one associated with or belonging to. It was chosen to evoke the muddy, swampy environment in which the animal's fossils were found. The name essentially conjures the image of a creature that lived in or moved through sticky, muddy terrain.

Two Medicine Formation, Montana, USA

Glishades ericksoni was named by Prieto-Márquez in 2010 based on very fragmentary premaxilla material from the Two Medicine Formation of Montana. Because the known material is so incomplete, many researchers consider it a nomen dubium — a doubtful name that cannot be reliably distinguished from other hadrosauroids. It is a hadrosauroid (duck-billed dinosaur relative), but its precise placement within the group remains uncertain.
