DYE-nuh-moh-TEHR-ur /ˌdaɪnəmoʊˈtɛrər/
Accepted genus
powerful terror
- dynamo · Greek · power, force (from dynamis)
- terror · Latin · terror
The name combines the Greek-derived "dynamo" (power or force) with the Latin "terror", giving roughly "powerful terror". It refers to this animal as a powerfully built tyrannosaur that was a fearsome predator. The only named species, D. dynastes, adds the Greek word for "ruler" or "lord".
