Barilium is an iguanodontian ornithopod, a relative of Iguanodon. Its only species, B. dawsoni, was originally named Iguanodon dawsoni by Lydekker in 1888. Norman moved it to its own genus in 2010. The etymology of the root "bari-" is given with moderate confidence.
